River Songs

written by Clifton J. Williams

The smell of you still lingers on my face
As your spying eyes peer at me through the blue
And this room, it feels the presence of your grace
You hold these walls, you hold my walls into place

All four days now that I’ve slept alone
My bed feels like a rock, my heart it beats no more
And oh that feeling that cools my world down
As I hear no sound upon that water

And that sound that I’m feeding upon
With these thoughts stuck inside my head
They keep me from
They keep me singing on

I play my River Songs on my own

I now crave that soothing feeling of your skin
As I lie atop you, we both sweat from our foreheads
And oh that feeling that cools my world down
As I hear no sound upon that water

And that sound that I’m feeding upon
With these thoughts stuck inside my head
They keep me from
They keep me singing on

I play my River Songs, on my own

If the prize at the end of this stretch of water is you
I’d feather myself up a bridge or I would swim
But for now I plan to keep these waters blue
Just as long as I’m without you

I play my River Songs, on my own
